Sunshine Coast breaks a GM5K record

Friday 08 July, 2016

A flying sign, soaring above the Sunshine Coast has boasted $373,822, the largest amount ever donated in the month long fundraiser.

92.7 Mix FM’s breakfast personalities Mark & Caroline, as well as afternoon crew Todd & Sami, worked tirelessly for the month of June, helping co-ordinate and publicise more than 40 separate events, all to raise much needed funds for paediatric health services on the Sunshine Coast.

Events this year ranged from auctioned Live Broadcasts, an Art Auction, Poker & Trivia Nights, lunches, dinners, Jessie’s Party in the Park and a battle of the sexes that saw Caroline and Sami VS Mark and Todd to see who could get the most donated in a day.

In 17 years, 92.7 MIX FM’s Give Me 5 for Kids appeal has donated over 3.4 million dollars for Sunshine Coast children’s health services. The record breaking  figure of $373,822.20 for 2016 means 92.7 MIX FM raised an average of over twelve thousand dollars every day of the month for the charity.

The funds donated will go towards the growing Child Development Service for the Sunshine Coast’s hospital, essential equipment for the Nambour General Hospital’s Paediatric Unit, as well as the wellbeing and entertainment of young patients in the Children’s Ward at the Nambour General Hospital.

92.7 MIX FM’s Caroline Hutchinson says she is so proud of this year’s achievement;

“We can’t believe it gets bigger and bigger every year. We’ve been on the job 17 years now and maybe people are used to us, maybe they have seen the difference GM5FK makes at the hospital or maybe they just really wanted to see Top Gun again. Whatever the motivation for the giving, we are very grateful.”

92.7 MIX FM’s Give Me 5 for Kids Coordinator, Mieke Griggs, says the record amount of $373,822.20 donated is an enormous result for the Sunshine Coast, “It is incredible to see the Whole of Sunshine Coast come together for such an amazing cause,” she said.

92.7 MIX FM’s General Manager John Williams says We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the Sunshine Coast. Another record year & Mark & Caroline our breakfast hosts as usual have lead from the front. This is a reflection of a community of listeners who want to be involved and contribute to the welfare of Sunshine Coast Children and have bonded with the concept of 92.7 MIX FM Give Me Five for Kids, it is incredible.”
