Stephen Crittenden returns to work at RN after investigation

Former Religion Report presenter Stephen Crittenden has returned to work this week after an internal investigation into his conduct where he spoke out about Radio National schedule changes in his program (see our earlier story).

The results of the investigation are being kept confidential, but Crittenden is back at work at Radio National after three months of paid suspension during the investigation process. He is now part of the Background Briefing program team.

An internal memo announcing his return said:

“The independent investigation into the nature of public comments made by Stephen late last year has been finalised… The detail of this investigation will remain a confidential matter between the ABC and Stephen.”

The former Director of Radio, Sue Howard resigned shortly after Crittenden’s on air blast at management about the schedule changes.

Crittenden’s reaction to the schedule changes and the axing of his program, has polarised ABC staff, with some supporting him and pointing to the fact that Sue Howard resigned as a sign that he won in the end. Others are annoyed that Crittenden appears to have gotten away with on-air criticisms that breach ABC policy and think he has brought the ABC into disrepute with listeners and the government by his public criticism.
