Sonshine FM hops in to help Schoolies

The problems associated with schoolies week are being tackled in a new and innovative way by Perth Christian station Sonshine FM – red jelly frogs.

A partnership between Hotel Chaplaincy and 98.5 Sonshine Fm is asking listeners to bring in red jelly frogs so that chaplains will have conversation starters when striking up friendship with youth.

98.5 Sonshine Fm program manager Arthur Muhl says: “What should be the highlight of a young person’s life is too often ruined by decisions made in the spur of the moment, or through the influence of peers.”

“This year, with the co-operation of local authorities, Hotel Chaplaincy will have chaplains working around the clock in the traditional schoolies hot spots of Rottnest Island and Dunsborough. They will provide a safety net and prevention strategy, in helping young people avoid reckless behaviour… the program has worked successfully in the Eastern States. “

The project has been called “Sonshine Fm’s Red Frog Hop” and listeners are asked to hop into 98.5 Sonshine Fm, (9 Boag Rd) in Morley, with sealed packets of red jelly frogs before 5pm Wednesday 20 November. The goal is 500kg of frogs will be collected for that weekend when celebrations commence.
