So why Bangers and Mash at this years ACRAS?

Don’t worry, you’re not about to see it on the menu as you sit down all frocked up at this year’s ACRA’s.

Meet Janeen O’Shea & Peter Harrison, otherwise known as Bangers & Mash from 2BS Gold in Bathurst.

They’ve been nominated in the Best On-Air team category at this year’s awards.

Janeen started her radio career with 2DayFM when they first kicked off in the heady days of FM radio in Sydney.  Some thirty years later it remains her first love.

I have worked in all aspects of the business from sales, promotion, copywriting and news to on-air announcing,” she says.

And no stranger to an ACRA, winning several over the years including Best On-Air Presenter – 2009, Best on Air Team with Pete Harrison for Fishy Friday 2009, & Best Community Service Project – Bessie Fitzpatrick Fundraising Appeal.

Janeen has been on-air with Peter for over ten years.

Pete has lived for most of his life in the Central West of New South Wales and “loves the life, the people and the food and wine of the region”.

It while was operating a café in Bathurst he discovered the power of radio advertising to promote the café and it was while he was in at the station voicing an ad it was suggested he could sit in on one of the radio shows.

Before long he was filling in on afternoons while at the same time starting his coffee roasting company “Fish River Roasters”.

It was during this time that Pete teamed up with Janeen for the “Fishy Friday” program which, as mentioned won an ACRA.

So when you have won ACRA’s before is this nomination any less exciting?

This is more exciting,” says Pete.

“I really didn’t understand what it would mean to win an ACRA. Our last award was presented by (Senator) Derryn Hinch and I hugged him so hard I got beard rash from him.  I have badly wanted to win another one since.”

Who was the first person you told about the nomination?

“Janeen rang me first thing in the morning. Awkwardly this coincided with me being in the bathroom (you can set a watch by my intestinal regularity) and I had to pretend I was in the kitchen,” says Peter

Julie Warner – via email – nothing like going straight to the top! Pete’s lying by the way – he was in bed with a hangover after attending a 30th birthday party – no doubt damaged from trying to dance and drink like most of the guests, says Janeen.

Finally, why Bangers and Mash and which one is which?

“Neither of us want’s to be known as “Bangers” that is way too much to live up to. We have always left this vague,” says Pete.

I agree with Pete on this one,” says Janeen.

The less said the better.”
