Tasmanian AM station, 7BU Burnie, will benefit from additional channel capacity on the FM band, allowing it to operate a translator in Smithton, Tasmania on 94.5MHz.

The ABA has also decided to vary the technical operating conditions of commercial FM station, 7SEA Burnie, meaning it can increase power from 8kW to 20 kW.

The decisions are contained in a variation to the radio licence area plan for Burnie, planned under the Commercial Radio Blackspots Program.

Commercial Radio Australia had identified Smithton/Stanley as a radio blackspot for 7BU. The variation is available from the ABA website (www.aba.gov.au) or by calling 1 800 226 667.
