Singleton joins horse race broadcast bid

John Singleton joined with incumbent Sky Channel in his pitch to the racing industry this week in a surprise move that may help Sky Channel retain its race broadcast contract.

Singleton’s consortium proposed a joint venture with Sky Channel which would see the creation of a second hourse racing channel as part of the Sky Racing TV network.

If this proposal is accepted, no change is expected to 2KY’s radio race broadcast agreements. If, in the unlikely situation that John Singleton came to be in a position of control of 2KY he would have trouble with the regulator for owning more than 2 stations in Sydney.

The Race Clubs will now confer to make a decision on which group they will allocate rights to when they expire in March.
