Singleton to host Triple J concert

Singleton in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley will host a free concert featuring three of Australia’s hottest bands – Powderginger, Magic Dirt, and Jet – with Triple J’s Mel Bampton as MC on Wednesday July 23.

Singleton is now bracing itself for an onslaught of up to 10,000 people eager to get a taste of this event, in a town “hungry for quality entertainment.”

The Triple J competition to decide the most deserving town to host the concert received “an amazing response, with over 50 communities from the far flung corners of Australia getting involved”

Each entry had to include a letter of support from the mayor, a letter from a local venue making itself available for free, a petition supporting the event, plus the design of a souvenir to promote the town.

The result was “many submissions, thousands upon thousands of signatures on petitions, and a Triple J boardroom filled to the ceiling with the most bizarre assortment of ‘souvenirs’ you could imagine, from jars of rodent poo to a giant cod with a former mayor’s head in its mouth.”
