Sea FM starts the year all at sea

This morning Sea FM Sunshine Coast’s breakfast team BarRat and Jess did what they believe to be a world first and broadcast live from the ocean on Mooloolaba Beach.

When Content Director Ryan Khay read about the new waterproof Sony Z1 mobile phone, he asked a local Telstra Area manager if he would be keen to try this out, and
be the first breakfast team to broadcast from the ocean.

The Team used the new phone and connected to the studio via the Tieline Report IT software over the 4G Network. A cheap set of ear bud headphones allowed communication back to the studio to hear the panel op.

The pair were greeted at the beach with one of the biggest swells the Sunshine Coast had seen for sometime. All went well until a huge wave dunked the team and the phone was dropped. Although it was waterproof, it didn’t float, so once it had been found the team went back to dry land.

Sea FM is hosting a week long broadcast from a shop front in Mooloolaba between 6am – 6pm, known as ‘Sea FM’s Summer Studio’.
