Scott wins a MACCA for Aunty on the Gold Coast

91.7 ABC Coast FM’s Scott Mayman has won another Gold Coast Media Award, beating out the local Hot Tomato and Southern Cross Media commercial oufits for the third year in a row. Even bigger news for Scott is that his wife is expecting their first child.

Last week, Scott won “Best Radio News Story” – the same award he won last year at the MACCA’s. The year before, he won the award for “Best Presenter”.

Scott is a little embarrassed saying he’s just doing the job he loves doing. He also won multiple awards for journalism and programming while working for CBS in America – including his coverage of the September 11 attacks. Scott worked nearly 8 years in the United States before returning to his home on the Gold Coast.

“I have fond memories of the hinterland – it was my home for many, many years when I was younger. Our house looked out over the cane fields towards the coastline,” says Scott. But working in US radio was undeniably a great experience.

“I learned from some of the best at CBS News. For most of the time, I was based in Kansas City at a group of News/talk and music radio stations. But my work hasn’t just been in America. My radio and TV career began in Brisbane in 1987, moving to Sydney in 1991 and I’ve pretty much done everything, from reading news, presenting programs, reporting live from the scene, news and management.

“While it was a major coup for an Australian to win an award over my US colleagues, it was a sad day made worse when we found out we lost one of our colleagues in the Twin Towers that horrible morning. It’s a horrible feeling to be caught up in all of that,” says Scott.

Scott can be heard presenting the “Afternoon Chillout” on 91.7 ABC Coast FM from 1:00pm.

“We begin with a long set of Coast Music; classic comedy to give us a “pick-me-up” and the odd chat about our lifestyle or the happenings on the Coast. Not the heavy stuff. Just a reflection of our coast lifestyle. Exactly what you need in the middle of the afternoon on ABC Coast FM,” says Scott.
