Sam Smith and Normani are the most played in 2019: AirCheck Survey

‘Dancing With A Stranger’ was the most played song on Australian radio this year with 21,186 spins according to data from AirCheck Australia.
 
The smash hit, released on 11 January, received its first play the same day on Nova 1069 in Brisbane and since then has earned spins across 29 stations nationwide. Nova 969 Sydney spun the track the most, contributing 1,816 instances, while all five Nova stations collectively accounted for 39.7% of all plays.
 
AirCheck Client Services Executive, Riarne Gale said “The total airplay for ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ is the equivalent of listening to the song on repeat for 41 days straight. Remarkably, the track never reached the summit of AirCheck’s Weekly Airplay chart, however it peaked at No.2 during March and April”.
 
Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber took out second place with ‘I Don’t Care’, spun 20,495 times. The track was an instant hit, debuting at No.2 on AirCheck’s Weekly Airplay chart, earning 792 spins in its first week on air. The collaboration then spent the following seven weeks at No.1 between May and July.
 
The Jonas Brothers’ ‘Sucker’ landed at No.3 earning 19,878 spins. With airplay across 26 stations, Nova 969 was out in front adding 1,590 instances.
 
‘Choir’ by Guy Sebastian was the most played Australian song on radio this year, placed fifth overall with 18,406 plays. The tune won both video and song of the year at the ARIA Awards last month. Released on 31 May, the track impressively reached No.5 with almost no airplay in the first five months of the year.
 
The most played artist of the year was Ed Sheeran for the third year in a row with a total of 73,583 songs, features and remixes. Pink was the most played female artist with 59,868 songs on the airwaves this year.
 
Universal held the greatest slice of the Top 100 record label share at 36%, followed by Sony (25%), Warner (22%), EMI (13%) and Independent (4%).
