Radio shines with Bushfire coverage

Natural disasters always seem to bring out the best in radio broadcasters.

Whether it’s the ABC, Commercial or Community radio, it seems whole stations come together to do all they can for their communities.

From a broadcaster’s point of view, it’s an extraordinary and unforgettable experience.

Time and again radio comes to the fore as the main information source for people impacted by fire, flood or cyclone..

This was certainly true in the recent Victorian bushfire emergency.

774 ABC was in emergency broadcast mode during the Bushfires and the response from a listener below highlights how much radio’s emergency coverage means to those who are in dangerous and often terrifying situations.

Station reporter Prue Bentley captured this from fire affected Wallan.
