It may have been 50 years ago, but today the emotions run high as Tasmanians remember the devastating bushfires of Black Tuesday.

On Tuesday, 7 February 1967, 64 lives were lost, 7500 people were left homeless and almost 1300 homes were burnt to the ground.

80,000 stock were claimed as 182,000ha burnt in high winds across 110 fire fronts and the 39 C degree day made it almost impossible for fire fighters to get a hold of the blaze as it raged across the state.

On this 50th anniversary of that tragic day, Hobart's Triple M paid tribute to those who lost the battle and to those that survived. For so many, the memories of that day still live on so vividly in their personal history.

Announcer Brett Marley presents this tribute to those affected by the events of that horrific day.
