Radio the hero in New York blackout

New Yorkers listened to their radios to find out what was happening during the recent blackout.

As TVs shut down without power and newspapers could not be printed, the importance of radio was once again reinforced to New Yorkers who huddled around parked cars listening through the windows, or brought out their portable transistors to spontaneously formed street parties.

Radio’s portability and immediacy were the real heroes of the blackout.
