Promosquad Hit Predictor is now in Australia

Tuesday 30 November, 2004

A new service called promosquad, that can predict the success of new music, has been introduced into Australia by Xtra Research.

Designed specifically for the music and media industry, the product is a “powerful and proven predictive music research concept to Australia.”

It uses an Australian database to survey Australian audiences for local results.

Promosquad’s Blair Sullivan has told radioinfo: “Two years ago our American partners started testing songs before airplay. At first they didn’t believe it themselves, but after testing almost every release, promosquad had shown close to 100% accuracy.

“In a time when finding hits is more important than ever, the new promosquad Australia utilises a massive national database of listeners to not only test songs and predict hits, but also to gain insight into what people are thinking right now about artists and new music. We offer a modern and useful way to identify what is new and hot.”

Labels, band managers, lead singers, promoters, music channels, radio programmers & music directors are likely to find the service “a new and powerful weapon” according to Sullivan.

Soon promosquad Australia will provide a free weekly Hitpredictor List to radio indicating the Top performing new songs across three different formats. This information will be a first for Program Directors and Music Directors in Australia. Every Program Director and Music Director “will need it in their toolbox.”

Blair Sullivan says: “In the last month alone promosquad Australia has received over 10,000 unique individual song votes. A few promosquad success stories from the US include:

• “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera

• “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence

• “I’m With You” by Avril Lavigne

• “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” by Good Charlotte

• “Unwell” by Matchbox 20

• “Rock Your Body” by Justin Timberlake

• “Numb” by Linkin Park

Anyone can become a promosquad Australia member as long as they live in Australia or New Zealand.

Managing Director Paul Amos says: “Promosquad Australia is about the members. Promosquad's members are playing a part in building the Australasian Music Industry’s biggest resource for public feedback and they get rewarded for their time. We’ve designed it to be an interactive and entertaining place that’s constantly changing and updating.”

The website is separated into six main areas: The Promosquad Jukebox for rating new music, Polls/Interactive, Get Famous, the Fame Gauge, the Prize Store and the Message Boards.

For members the promosquad jukebox is where they can hear new music first, before it's on the radio. Labels and artists “really pay attention and trust the way members’ rate and give feedback on their music.”

The jukebox is continually updated with the latest music from Australia and
around the world. And for every song rated members receive rewards points that can be cashed in at the prize store for DVD’s, CD’s and much more. In addition to the prize store, promosquad Australia also runs special contests and giveaways from time to time.

Paul Amos says: “Australia has its own unique music influences and now through promosquad we can see what Aussies think, rather than simply following US & UK release trends. For local acts, the information is invaluable in helping them get their music to the people that like it.”
