NZ Radio Awards are a fortnight away

The 2019 NZ Radio Awards are just two weeks away and will be held at Sky City Theatre in Auckland on Thursday 20 June from 4.30pm.

The hosts for the night are first time hosts of the Radio Awards two of the industry’s most loved broadcasters, Meg Annear from MediaWorks and Megan Papas from NZME.

Meg Annear has worked her way through the NZ radio industry, starting off on breakfast radio in Queenstown before moving to The Edge Workday and is now a host on The Edge Breakfast Show.

Originally from Wellington, Meg is now settled into Auckland life and thriving on air with her quick wit keeping co-hosts Dom & Randell on their toes.

Meg says that hosting the NZ Radio Awards is a huge honour and she is excited to be working with Megan Papas, someone she admires hugely as a broadcaster and person.

Megan has worked in radio for 14 years, starting out as a Creative Engineer and Imaging Producer before she began her announcing career on Flava Breakfast, and soon after moved to The Edge as a producer for Fletch & Vaughan.

After a short stint with Jay-Jay, Mike & Dom as their newsreader and morning host on the Edge, Megan went back to working with her now co-hosts Fletch & Vaughan and she says, “…when I was just starting out in radio, I always told myself, if I could just get nominated for one of these suckers I’d have made it! I’m pretty honoured to host the thang this year and working with Meg.”

The awards acknowledge the hard work within all aspects of the radio industry and celebrate the on-air personalities, programming, news & sports coverage, promotions, creativity & production, sales and community involvement.

Finalists in one of the most sort after awards ‘Best Music Breakfast Show Network’ include last year’s winners ZM’s Fletch, Vaughan & Megan along with Simon Barnett & Gary McCormick from More FM & The Edge’s Dom, Meg & Randell.

‘Best Talk Presenter – Breakfast or Drive’ is hotly contested again with previous year’s winner Mike Hosking from Newstalk ZB up against fellow host Larry Williams and Guyon Espiner & Susie Ferguson from RNZ National.

Marcus Lush from Newstalk ZB is hoping to defend his win from last year for ‘Best Talk Presenter – Other’, up against Leighton Smith, Newstalk ZB & Kim Hill, RNZ National.

The coveted Network Station of the Year finalists include RNZ National, ZM and The Edge.
