Nova unveils new breakfast team

dmg has revealed Nova 969’s new Sydney breakfast team for 2010. This time they’ve opted for rising rather than big stars in Scott Dooley and Ricki-Lee Coulter to join Merrick Watts who will be very much the senior member of the team.

Scott Dooley began his radio career on Triple J, where for the past two years he hosted the national Drive show, credited with being the most listened-to show on the station. Before that he worked with The Chaser boys writing the controversial Chaser Newspaper, and more recently has been a regular contributor to Network Ten’s 7pm Project.

Ricki-Lee Coulter rose to fame on Australian Idol as a contestant in 2004. She has since gone on to pave a rare and successful independent music career, which includes six Top 10 ARIA singles, nine #1 AIR Chart singles and two gold selling albums. Ricki-Lee has had numerous television roles, including co-hosting Australian Idol. She has been a regular interviewee on many Nova shows as well as co-hosting Nova’s Idol show in 2008: Backstage with James Mathison & Ricki-Lee.

Merrick says, “I can’t wait to start work with Ricki-Lee and Scott in 2010. I’ve interviewed Ricki-Lee many times before and can now look forward to interviewing her each and every weekday morning from 6am. Scott got the job because he barracks for the same footy team as me. He also likes beer and telling strange stories that go nowhere, so we have heaps in common.”

Apart from Merrick, perhaps the most important part of the breakfast show, the sponsor, Bank West, has also announced that it will continue its association with the breakfast show in 2010.

dmg Group Program Director Dean Buchanan says, “This is the most significant change since Nova launched on April 1, 2001.

“The new breakfast show will spearhead a complete regeneration for Nova. They are three very talented Australians – each in their own right – and we’re looking forward to unleashing this unique and exciting team on air,” he said.

The new breakfast show will not only be heard weekdays 6am-9am on Nova 969 but a condensed version will also be broadcast across the whole Nova Network weekdays from 6pm-7pm.
