New voice for 999 ABC Broken Hill

Leonie Lyons has been appointed Presenter of 999 ABC Broken Hill’s
Outback Outlook, the weekday morning radio program covering Far West
NSW.

Leonie, who’s passionate about rural and remote Australia, leaves her post as Rural Reporter at 639 ABC North and West in South Australia to join the team in Broken Hill on January 23.

No stranger to rural life, Leonie brings to the role “hands-on” experience from growing up on cattle stations in central Queensland and working as a station hand before commencing her broadcasting career.

After graduating from Central Queensland University with a Bachelor of Communication, Leonie joined the ABC in Townsville and spent three years presenting the rural report and preparing stories for state and national ABC radio programs, including The Queensland Country Hour, Bush Telegraph, National Rural News and Triple J.

She has also worked as a federal political media adviser and traveled extensively overseas.

Outback Outlook gives listeners a weekday window to the world between 8.30am and 11.00am. Regular segments cover health and lifestyle issues, local history and motoring, with a healthy dose of comedy from Sir Murray Rivers and Blue the Shearer and classic songs on Jukebox Journey.
