New regional community licence for Tasmania

The ABA has allocated a new community licence for the Northern Midlands area of Tasmania to Northern Midlands Community Broadcasters Inc (Heart FM), which will broadcast on 95.7 FM.

Heart FM is currently broadcasting on that frequency under a temporary community broadcasting licence that expires on 30 April 2003. The permanent community radio broadcasting licence will commence on the following day.

Heart FM was the only applicant for the licence. Its application was assessed “with particular regard to whether the proposed service would meet existing and perceived future community needs.”
