MRN to broadcast from Gallipoli

Earlier this week we reported that ABC Local Radio will broadcast from the dawn service at Gallipoli.

Today Macquarie Radio Network has announced that 3AW, 2UE, 4BC and 6PR will also broadcast a special national program from Gallipoli on Anzac Day to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the landing.

The live dawn service will be hosted by 2UE Drive presenter Justin Smith, and will broadcast live across the network.  The broadcast will air in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane from 10am to 1:30pm, and in Perth from 8am to 11:30am.

“It’s an honour just to be in Gallipoli. But to have the chance to broadcast a national program back home to Australia is really something,” says Smith.  “After 100 years it’s amazing how much people understand about what happened. And they always want to know more. Australians have become so eager to show respect. It says a lot about who we are.”

Smith is no stranger to covering Anzac Day commemorations, broadcasting the Anzac Day dawn service at Afganistan’s Tarin Kowt base in 2013.

Also heading to Turkey is breakfast news reader Natalie Peters, who will report for the network and also trace one of her ancestors killed in Gallipoli in 1915.
