More Overseas Aussies success

radioinfo has received this correspondence from Peter Gowers, following up an earlier article on Aussie radio people’s success overseas. He writes: .

Just to continue what Jarrod said about the explosion of Aussies in UAE radio. Eighteen months ago, I was the first Australian in radio in Dubai when I assumed the position of Group Program Director for the Channel 4 Radio Network. Now, as he says, there are at least 12 announcers.

Interestingly, a Brit employed me for the position due to the fact that Aussies are perceiveed in the UK as being ‘the best people in radio’. That’s what he said when I was offered the position. We are percieived as hard working people who know their radio.

It has also been said that Australian radio ‘picks the eyes’ from US and UK programming to make the world’s best radio. With international and local experience it is not surprising that the guys who work abroad get great positions when they come home.

Regards, Peter Gowers.

And several more successful Aussie radio people working overseas have also been sent to radioinfo. They are:

* Scott Mayman – who is News Director NEWS/TALK KCMO radio Kansas City and

* Sue Carter – Programme director, and drive presenter at GWR Swindon.
