Fairfax is reportedly hoping to woo 3AW morning personality, Neil Mitchell, to The Age as Editor-in-Chief to take over from the outgoing Michael Gawenda.
According to The Melbourne Observer, Mitchell is a target with a salary package of just under $1m – probably double what he’s earning at 3AW.
Apart from a long radio background, Mitchell is also a former Herald Editor.
Other candidates include Deputy Editor, Simon Mann, former Editor, Eric Beecher, Features and Opinion Editor, Paul Austin and ex-Age journalist, Garry Linnell, who’s now with The Bulletin.
Gawenda has been The Age’s Editor for seven years, but wants to resume his reporting career as the paper’s Washington correspondent.
