Midge Ure at Radiodays Europe

‘The World is Listening.’

With the first speakers recently confirmed for Radiodays Europe 2018, multi-platinum, award-winning musician, singer-songwriter and producer Midge Ure has been announced as part of the lineup.

Other speakers include Ben Hammersley, global futurist and inventor of the word ‘Podcast’; Bob Shennan, Director, Radio and Music, BBC UK; Jo Stanley, Australian breakfast host and comedian; Siobhan Kenny, CEO, Radiocentre, UK; Jon Braenes, Head of Radio, NRK, Norway; and Laura Romero, Audio Producer, Director and Professor, Spain.

In conversation, Ure will talk about his career in music, the role radio has played, and how the music industry has changed over the years.

Ure has had success with bands including Thin Lizzy, Visage, and most notably as frontman of Ultravox. In 1984, Ure co-wrote and produced the charity single ‘Do they know it’s Christmas?’ by Band Aid. With Bob Geldof, Ure then went on to organise ‘Live Aid’ to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia.

Ure will share the story behind the writing and recording of ‘Do they know it’s Christmas?’, and will treat Radiodays Europe to some live music in Vienna.

UreMidge continues to record, produce and tour, combining acoustic shows with regular festival appearances. In 2017, he was back in the UK charts with ‘Orchestrated’ – an album of reimagined and orchestrated versions of Ultravox hits and his solo classic tracks.
