For the second time in two years, staff have been given their notices at Melbourne’s Magic 1278.

Sources speaking on condition of anonymity have told radioinfo that some staff were handed redundancy notices last week, prior to the Macquarie Christmas party. 

The redundancies will not take effect until the 27th of February next year.

Sources suggest that Magic 1278 will take 2UE’s ‘Talking Lifestyle’ format with content networked from 2UE in Sydney. If that’s the case then it is almost certain that Brisbane’s Magic 882 will follow suit.

Macquarie Media has declined to comment.

Meanwhile there’s no news on the sale of 2CH, now in the hands of accounting and business consultancy firm Deloitte. The timetable for the sale has not been made public by the ACMA who ordered the sale following the passing of extended deadlines it had granted Macquarie Media Limited.
