Marty’s radio milestone

Tomorrow marks 15 years since i98FM Breakfast Show host Marty Haynes took to the Illawarra airwaves.

This morning the station celebrated Marty’s milestone with a special edition of the Breakfast Show.

From 6am till 9am, guests and callers who have been part of the show and Marty’s life for the past 15 years called in.

This special dedication highlighted Marty’s previous co-hosts along with friends like Craig Bellamy, Tim Bailey, Brad Jones and of course Marty’s family.

Unaware of what had been planned, Marty was extremely moved commenting, “I’ve been lucky to live in such a great place and work in this environment. I’d like to thank the listeners and people that have supported not just me, but my family. It’s everyone that comes out for Convoy and stops to just say hello in the street that makes this job special. It’s been a great journey.”

Among Marty’s achievements at i98 is founding the i98FM Illawarra Convoy which began in 2005.

Since then, the annual truck and motorbike Convoy has raised more than $9.5 million dollars for Camp Quality and earned Marty an Order of Australia Medal in 2014. Last year, the Illawarra Community Foundation was formed with funds from the event now being made available to not only support Camp Quality locally, but other members of the community facing life threatening illness.

Additionally, Marty has enjoyed the success of hosting the number one rated Breakfast Show in the Illawarra since 2002.

At this morning’s celebrations WIN Network CEO Andrew Lancaster said, “Marty has so much to be proud of during his time at i98. From consecutive ratings wins to the huge success that is Convoy, it’s a testament to a man with an unwavering work ethic, strong family values and who recognises the importance of community in what we do.”
