Macquarie Media stations fear changes at the top

Following the announcement this week of a 9% revenue fall at Macquarie Media, senior staff are nervous that management positions around the country may be cut.

It is believed 6PR chief Martin Boylen has left the network’s Perth operation.

Staff in Melbourne have told radioinfo that they are nervous after hearing last year from Macquarie Media leadership that the jobs of “shiny bums” in management, who do not have a direct connection to either sales or program making, would be under scrutiny.

Chairman Russell Tate was quoted as being “disappointed” at the revenue fall this week, but “confident” of achieving full year profit (EBITDA) forecasts in the range of $20 – $25 million.

There are two ways to achieve profit – get more revenue or cut costs.

Macquarie Media was not available to confirm details at the time of publication.

Martin Boylen’s phone message was blank yesterday when radioinfo called, and email messages to his account were bounced
