Local ABC concert for Gippsland

Gippsland locals, Steve Messer and Reggies Trio will play alongside Neil Murray and Cyndi Boste to launch ABC Radio’s new concert series ‘Local and Live’ on Wednesday 9 October.

Hosted by ABC Gippsland’s Drive presenter, Joanne Spargo (pictured) and Radio National’s Paul Petran, listeners are invited to come along and be a part of this event that will showcase a great array of Australian musical talent live on stage at the Moe Town Hall from 7.00 – 9.00pm.

The ABC Radio ‘Local and Live’ Concert series is designed to expose and encourage performance by local musicians in regional Australia. As a result of the ABC’s Regional Production Fund, these concerts will be staged at key regions around Victoria in the coming months. The concerts will feature a mix of established and emerging artists with the aim to bring well known artists to regional audiences and expose local artists to the rest of the country via the airwaves.

Listeners will have an opportunity to see the variety and quality of music being made both locally and further a field. Local artist, Steve Messer has 21 years experience and 2 solo albums to his name. Based in the Gippsland region, he is one of the true veterans of the Victorian blues scene. Twice winner of the Hohner Golden Harmonica Championship at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, there is certainly a touch of country and ragtime emerging from his 6 piece group.

Reggies Trio are also from the Gippsland region. This folk trio are renowned for putting on a brilliant live performance. Their up – tempo sound has seen them travel the country appearing at many Australian music festivals. The band also incorporates flute, clarvarchar(15) and flugelhorn into their music.

Cyndi Boste is a veteran live performer from the Melbourne Music scene known for her ‘rich, soulful voice which can penetrate the hardest of hearts’. Her music has a definite country flavour with strong blues / roots influence which when combined with her singer/songwriter style, delivers a unique musical experience.

Neil Murray is one of Australia’s most respected singer/songwriters. People will be familiar with his songs “My Island Home” and “Blackfella Whitefella “, that have earned him a number of accolades. He has been described as a passionate man with a message who writes from the true heart and soul of Australia.
