Laws pays homage to John Kerr’s 50 years on air: Audio

Although all the current fanfare is about John Laws’ imminent departure after 55 years in radio, the great man was willing to share centre stage today with fellow 2UE announcer, John Kerr who on Saturday racks up 50 years himself.

Few have lasted the distance, but 2UE’s John Kerr joins a very elite club on Saturday, November 17 notching up 50 years on air

At just 15 years of age, John started in radio at the end of 1957 working as an assistant on the Jack Davey Shows.

By March 1958 he became a cadet announcer at Radio 2PK in Parkes, moving to Dubbo’s 2DU in 1959 and then in 1960 taking up duties as Breakfast announcer at 2CA in Canberra where he remained for the next six years.

Since 1994 John’s been at 2UE hosting the New Day Australia program.

John describes his favourite on air moment as, “Doing the Christmas morning breakfast program in Gosford and receiving a call from my four year old son telling me to come home”.
