Laws causes phone meltdown on first day back on air

If the strain on the 2SM phone system is any indication of increased listening, then the return of ‘golden tonsils’ to the airwaves is already paying dividends for Sydney’s forgotten station.

Along with racing station 2KY, 2SM has opted out of Nielsen surveys – a situation that reclusive owner Bill Caralis says he may reconsider, telling the SMH via email (but not face to face) that he will have “another look” at whether to have 2SM included in the ratings surveys in Sydney later in the year, “after John settles in behind his golden microphone”.

Despite lack of numbers in the book, advertising is already looking up according to Caralis.

Laws started the program by saying “I have no idea what I’m doing here, but the objective is to keep the dream alive.”

Guests for his first show included PM Julia Gillard, his old mate (little brother) John Williamson and Gerry Harvey.
