Kalgoorlie radio ratings released

Radio ratings for the mining city of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia have been released.

Local stations Hot FM 97.9 and RadioWest Goldfields will be looking at the results with interest, as this is the first time a radio survey has been undertaken in the region.

“The results of the radio survey in Kalgoorlie will be very interesting, as it will provide in-depth information on the listening audience in a dynamic region that is spread over a wide geographic area,” said Joan Warner, CEO of peak industry body Commercial Radio Australia.

And the results are in with Hot FM the station most listened to with 33.1% followed by Radio West with 26% and ABC Local radio 14.4%.

Hot FM is also number 1 in breakfast with 32%, Radio West is second with 26.4% and ABC LOcal Radio 15.4%.

Kalgoorlie is Australia’s largest outback city and was formed during the 1880s gold rush.  The region’s fortunes have been tied to gold and nickel mining and it is home to one of the world’s largest open cut mines, the Super Pit.

Kalgoorlie is one of three regions in Western Australia where radio ratings will be undertaken this year. Radio ratings were released for Albany last week and Bunbury will follow in the second half of the year.

The survey was conducted by Xtra Research.
