K rock prove #LoveIsLove

Last Friday the LGBTI community and supporters of Sydney were putting together their costumes, floats and showering in glitter for the inaugural Mardi Gras. In Geelong, there was a little less glitter but not any less love and support for similar reasons.

Local Geelong couple Addam & Digby started the day with nerves, laughter and love with their bridal party.

The month build up to the big day was nothing less than overwhelming, not only for the couple but for the K rock team. Addam & Digby were proud enough to stand up and be the face for Marriage Equality in the K rock campaign and their contribution and open hearts allowed K rock to share a story that deserves to be told.

The morning started with hundreds of messages of support from so many around Geelong, Bellarine and The Surf Coast being shared with the couple. Those behind the scenes started in the wee hours of the morning to ensure no detail was missed for the perfect day where Addam & Digby were able to say ‘I Do’.

The K rock team broadcast live and streamed on Facebook to share the emotion, love and support for radio’s first same-sex marriage with the listeners. As the ceremony started we put a pause on our programming and gave Addam & Digby their opportunity to become ‘Partners for Life’ in our eyes.

A relieved Digby said The nerves were very high in the car on the way there, but as I got out of the car and saw my friends and my family I felt immediately comfortable knowing their support was right behind Addam & I.”

‘We don’t know how to feel, beforehand we knew we would be sharing this with Australia but in the moment we didn’t think about that we enjoyed sharing our vows with Dianne Schmidtke and making our relationship official in the eyes of K rock, K rock listeners and Geelong and The Surf Coast

Addam continued to be overwhelmed with support stating We cannot put into words how lucky we are and how appreciative we are for everything that has happened today. Everything you have given us has been awesome, it has been an absolutely amazing day! Today means what it means to everybody else who gets married, it was a really beautiful moment and now we can enjoy ourselves with those who are closest to us.

K rock Program Director, Leigh Kuhlmann proudly said “When we started this we never thought it would get as big as it has been. Thousands of emails from listeners and clients who have jumped on board to be a part of radio history in Geelong and the Surf Coast. It is so cool to work for a company who can take a leadership position on such an important social issues. Politicians need to stand up and be counted because this will happen with or without them

The successful end to the Marriage Equality campaign proved that Geelong and The Surf Coast are 100% behind Marriage Equality and couldn’t be happier to recognize that #LoveIsLove.
