The Jarryd Hayne Effect

Peady’s Selling Engagement sponsored by IRD Prospector

The man everyone is talking about, Jarryd Hayne – from the Parramatta Eels to the San Francisco 49ers, an incredible journey in a short space of time.

In fact his performance prompted me to write this post.

As the SMH reported yesterday:

“Eleven months ago Hayne stunned the rugby league world when he announced he would be walking away from a contract that would have seen him become the highest paid player in the NRL to pursue his American dream. After just six months of training with the 49ers, and only four preseason games, Hayne demanded selection with performances that have earned him the tag as the most exciting story of the preseason”

But what’s the “Hayne Plane” and selling got in common?

I figure it’s a bit like this. Anyone can change. Even a superstar footballer, provided they are prepared to commit to that change.

To get to the top of his chosen sport and to now be recognised as an emerging star in a new one Jarryd clearly demonstrates these ten traits:
  1. He has a clear set of goals
  2. He’s prepared to learn new rules and a new “game”
  3. He isn’t afraid of seriously hard work
  4. He’s open to change and challenges
  5. He uses the skills he already has to become better
  6. He is happy for his performance to speak on his behalf
  7. He is happy to work in a team environment
  8. He will sacrifice short term gain for long term rewards
  9. He’s open minded with a high level of “can do” attitude
  10. He can see the big picture
Just imagine if we only took only three, maybe four of those traits and applied them to our current role. What difference would it make?

How about if we took five or six?

We all can’t be stars but we can always strive to be the best at what we do.

Have another awesome selling week!
