It’s time John Laws called it time says Ray Hadley

Keen observers of talk radio would know that there’s no love lost between the once master John Laws and his once apprentice Ray Hadley. Verbal outbursts in the media are commonplace between these two.

But this time Hadley has taken to Laws in good cause and for a good cause. Yesterday, Hadley devoted more than 17 minutes of his top rating morning program on 2GB to build a case for Laws to call it quits and get off the air for good.

Last Friday, on 2SM, Laws took a call from “Brian” who had suffered sexual abuse as a child back in the 1930s. Laws seemed to show little empathy for the man’s plight and the suffering he had endured back then in a physical sense and psychologically in all the years since.

Having heard the call Hadley told his audience, “Mr Laws sent me a fax back in 2003 when I first beat him in the ratings. He said, “You have my congratulations. Maybe it’s time.”

“Well, I think after  what’s happened after the past 24 hours maybe it is time you called time on a great broadcasting career because all you’re doing at the moment is holding yourself up to public ridicule because you have no empathy or understanding on what we should be doing about historical sexual attacks.

“I think he’s much better served sitting on the finger wharf sipping cocktails than being on air and discussing serious issues such as paedophilia,” said Hadley

Listen and tell us whether you think he’s got a point.
