The iconic Blondie joins smooth

Blondie will join the smoothfm all-star weekend line-up to host their own show from this Saturday.

Founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, Blondie pioneered the punk rock scene in the 1970s. Over the last four decades, Blondie’s influence has shaped the worlds of music, fashion and art, synonymous with the punk spirit it encapsulates.

Throughout the band’s 43 year history, Blonde has released ten studio albums and sold over 40 million records worldwide with countless hit singles including ‘Call Me’, ‘Rapture’ and ‘Heart of Glass’.

Blondie has a new studio album, Pollinator, which will be released on Friday 5 May. The album is a modern take on the classic, vintage sound that Blondie is best known for and the band are excited to share some of the songs from the album with listeners.

Radio is close to the band’s heart, with the BBC one of Debbie Harry’s first jobs, working for a Director in the Radio Production Department in New York.

“I got the job by a very sneaky device. There was a blind ad in the New York Time, I got my Uncle Art to write a letter and he wrote this great business like letter. I signed my name to it and I got called in for an interview and got the job. Little did they know I knew absolutely nothing, I didn’t even know how to write a cheque,” said Harry.

Georgie Page, smoothfm Program Director said, “We’re so lucky to have such a range of incredible artists keen to host shows on smoothfm. Our listeners love hearing about their lives and the stories behind their success. Debbie and Chris from Blondie are such an iconic duo in music and their incredible chemistry and sense of humour will make for some great radio shows!”

Blondie can be heard on smoothfm 95.3 Sydney, smoothfm 91.5 Melbourne and on smoothfm DAB+ on Saturday 29 April to Saturday 20 May.
