Brisbane’s 4BC has granted Ian ‘Bear’ Maurice a release from the remainder of his afternoon shift contract.

General Manager, David McDonald, says: “Maurice asked for this release to pursue other opportunities in the entertainment and tv industries.”

Maurice says: “I’m pleased 4BC is able to accommodate this personal request.

“I’ll continue to do afternoons until Friday 17 September and then take about a four week break from broadcasting.”

Subject to further negotiations, it is expected that Maurice will be able to return to broadcasting on weekends with 4BC, while still still pursuing the entertainment and television opportunities.

McDonald, while disappointed, is understanding: “Ian is a well respected and much valued member of the Radio 4BC team and it is good he is maintaining his links with the station.”

There has been no announcement on an afternoon replacement.
