Former ABC Radio broadcaster Howard Ainsworth has passed away this week.
He joined ABC Radio in 1963 serving the station for 27 years before later becoming the broadcast manager for 4MBS. He was also awarded an Order Of Australia in 2011.
Ainsworth was tireless in his devoted work with 4MBS, which involved training and overseeing the activities of all announcers. He was one of the best known voices on classical radio in Queensland.
Howard’s funeral service will be held at St John’s Cathedral, 373 Ann Street, Brisbane, next Monday 14 September at 10.00 am.

Yes, professional and very likable; many will be saddened to lose the voice and commitment of a real broadcaster. He was already well established on air and in ABC circles so very long ago when our paths crossed at a Sydney Announcers forum in the 60s. Decades later he retains our admiration. RMc
