How radio is handling COVID19

Radio station always rise to a crisis, and the current pandemic is no exception as presenters find different ways to inform and entertain their audiences.

ACE Radio’s Damien Hancock host of the Ace Radio Overnight program Victoria Overnight in collaboration with Mixx FM Hamilton announcer Matt Lipiarski created a parody of John Denver’s ‘Country Roads’.

ABC Radio Adelaide’s  Evenings with Peter Goers will launch a new segment Nursing Home Cheerios on Wednesday evenings, when listeners can call into the program to send a message and aural hug to loved ones across the radio.

ABC Radio has added a number of new programs and podcasts aimed at keeping audiences updated with the latest information on COVID-19.

A number of high profile programs are now being presented remotely, and as of tomorrow FIVEaa’s David & Will wil broadcast from home.

This is a tour of Will Gooding’s home studio

For others, like Triple M’s The Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy, it has meant a change in the usual guest lineup as they have called on their extensive list of contacts to deliver the facts to Melburnians and hear from those in charge of major government decisions and organisations.

Guests on The Hot Breakfast have included:

  • Scott Morrison, Australian PM
  • Daniel Andrews, Victorian Premier
  • Josh Frydenburg, Treasurer of Australia
  • Graham Ashton, Chief Commissioner of Victorian Police
  • Gillon McLachlan, CEO of the AFL
  • Anna Bligh, CEO of the Australian Banking Association

Eddie and Luke will also stay onair over the next few weeks, foregoing the usual first scheduled radio survey break of 2020.
