Hot Tomato's Summer comes early

Thursday 22 May, 2003

The Hot Tomato Broadcasting Company has announced the appointment of Summer Arathoon as News Director of the Gold Coast’s new FM radio station 102.9, signalling it is getting closer to an on-air date.

Hot Tomato CEO Jaan Torv told radioinfo:

“Summer Arathoon’s extensive local knowledge together with her professional news writing and delivery skills, fills an extremely important role at Hot Tomato. Summer comes aboard with a great attitude to the kind of radio we are planning for the Gold Coast. We welcome Summer knowing she will contribute largely to the on-air team spirit and the freshness that is so important for our listeners.”

Arathoon recently completed work in both Brisbane radio and Channel Nine Gold Coast News.

Hot Tomato Programme Director Rob McCasker says: “This is a demanding position at Hot Tomato and we felt Summer was clearly the outstanding candidate. She brings experience, integrity and significant local news sources with her to Hot Tomato.”

Arathoon told radioinfo: “I’m thrilled to become a part of such a strong team, with a refreshing outlook on radio. To build a newsroom from the ground up is a once in a lifetime opportunity. To be able to do that in the city that I live in and love so much is a bonus. I believe I have the right grasp on the news that is important to our community, and I’m looking forward to delivering current, relevant, accurate and interesting news.”

The Gold Coast is Australia’s fastest growing market with an estimated base population of 462,000 people (and more in the tourist season). The Hot Tomato Broadcasting Company Pty, Ltd. is the first new commercial FM radio licence on the Queensland Gold Coast in almost 14 years.
