hit92.9’s Xavier Ellis dishes dirt on past AFL coaches

‘I saw Clarko punch himself in the face.’

Xavier Ellis, from hit92.9’s Heidi, Xavier & Ryan, has revealed a few things about past AFL coaches during an interview with Fremantle Dockers Women’s Coach, Michelle Cowan, this morning.

Chatting to Cowan, who was in studio ahead of the Docks Vs Collingwood match this Saturday at Optus Stadium in Perth, Xavier asked her to describe her coaching style, drawing on his own experiences with Hawthorn and West Coast Eagles Coaches.

“Clarko [Alastair Clarkson] could go off his head and Simmo [Adam Simpson] was pretty cool calm and collected. That’s both ends of the spectrum,” Xavier revealed.

“Where do you fit? Are you a yeller and screamer, or cool, calm and collected?”

“I think I’m pretty measured throughout the week and game day as well. You try and do all your work in the pre-season and do what you’ve got to do on game day as well,” Cowan responded.

Chipping in, Ryan clarified the Dockers Coach has never punched a wall or thrown a phone, leading Xavier to reveal some more juicy info about his old Hawthorn Coach.

“I’ve actually seen Clarko punch himself in the face! It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen in a meeting.”

Opening up the phone lines for listeners to call in with questions, Cowan was once again given the opportunity to rally behind females everywhere when a caller asked if the women get just as rough on field as the guys.

“I don’t think anyone would ever question the effort and intensity that the girls put out there.”

“They’re absolutely incredible. Both on the training track and on game day. I think both give it a good crack every time.”

Heidi asked Cowan what she would say to people who STILL think women shouldn’t be playing AFL.

“I just encourage them to come along on the weekend … but you can’t, because it’s sold out!”
