hit92.9’s Hedi, Xavier & Ryan support initiative for safer rides home

Pink Taxis WA will be operated by female-only drivers.

hit92.9’s Heidi, Xavier & Ryan have joined forces with ComfortDelGro to launch Pink Taxis WA, a new fleet of female-friendly taxis, focusing on the needs of women and providing an alternative option of getting home safely.

The Pink Taxis WA initiative has been in the works for six months and pushed forward after recent tragedies in Melbourne have left many women concerned about personal safety.

It was this unease that birthed the concept of Pink Taxis WA in the first place after Heidi shared a personal story of harassment in a taxi last year, leading ComfortDelGro to reach out.

“ComfortDelGro contacted me and asked to have a discussion and collaborate on ways to make women feel safer travelling alone,” said Heidi.

“After some serious brain storming, we came up with this idea of taxis operated by female only drivers.”

“At the end of the day, it’s a shame that we need this at all but that is the current reality.”

It’s good now women, and men, will have an option to make them feel more comfortable travelling home at night.”

With a full fleet hitting the roads in the coming months, the first batch of Pink Taxis are already in service and hitting the streets of Northbridge and Perth’s CBD this weekend to build awareness around the initiative.

Pink Taxis WA will be offering free rides home from 9pm-2am on Friday and Saturday night.
