Radio 2 1611 AM has announced the appointment of Michael Hibbard as General Manager.

Michael Hibbard, who begins at Radio 2 next week, told radioinfo: “I am excited about the challenge of firmly establishing a new commercial AM radio station in the competitive Sydney market.”

Hibbard holds a Business Studies Degree from NSW University of Technology and has 30 years of professional broadcast radio experience, beginning at 2UW in 1971. He most recently held the position of Program Director at 2UE.

Radio 2 was the subject of criticism by Mark Day in his Media column in The Australian this week. Day criticised the basis for the company’s business plan and float, highlighting the station’s low potential listenership, weak transmitter and off-band frequency.
