Has Christian O'Connell sparked international tension

Thursday 29 November, 2018
Gold 104.3’s Christian O’ Connell may have accidentally sparked international tension between Melbourne and Vienna, with his song ‘Sing it for Melbourne’, an answer to Ultravox’s hit ‘Vienna’.

You might remember, back in September when Melbourne was knocked off top spot by Vienna as the ‘Most Liveable City in the World’  Christian was shocked.

The only thing he could think of that Vienna had over Melbourne was the Ultravox song ‘Vienna’, so he commissioned Jack to write an anthem for Melbourne.

With the help of listeners, a school choir and even Hamish McLachlan, 'Sing it for Melbourne' was born and reached #1 on the iTunes Rock charts.

But after hearing Christian’s attempt to over shadow Vienna, lead singer of Ultravox, Midge Ure , has fired back.

A Gold 104.3 listener was interviewing Midge and asked him what he thought about ‘Sing it For Melbourne’ and Midge had a cheeky message for Christian.
