Hadley Declines Footy Show

2GB morning presenter and rugby league caller, Ray Hadley, has rejected an offer from the Nine Network to join ‘The Footy Show’.

The decision partially averts what was looming as a TV war.

Nine had been hoping to sign Hadley and Rebecca Wilson (Foxtel and The Daily Telegraph) to try to boost falling ratings.

Despite recently winning a Silver Logie, the program – which airs in NSW and Queensland – suffered its worst ratings of the year on Thursday night.

The slump coincides with the dramatic departure of Nine CEO, David Gyngell.

Hadley has told The Daily Telegraph’s Ray Chesterton that his work schedule was the key to declining the opportunity.

“I spoke to the owner of 2GB, John Singleton, about the Channel 9 offer and he reminded me I already work seven days a week.

“I also spoke to Bob Fulton, who’s a member of 2GB’s Continuous Call team, and my wife, Suzanne, before I made the decision.”

Hadley was sacked by Nine some years ago and it is no secret there is little love from Footy Show hosts, Paul Vautin or Peter Sterling, for the 2GB presenter or Rebecca Wilson, both of whom have been openly critical of the program.

Despite Hadley rejecting the Channel 9 offer, it is understood Wilson will proceed with a meeting today with network executives – so universal peace might not quite have been reached yet.
