Guinness world record holders Jonesy & Amanda swim with sharks

The 101.7 WSFM Breakfast Team this morning set a new Guinness World Record for the Longest Underwater Broadcast. The record took place in the Great Barrier Reef Habitat at the Sydney Aquarium which is home to eight sharks including a 2.8 meter lemon shark.  Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller endured three hours underwater at 3.8 meters thanks to the support of Pro Dive.

Jonesy found the underwater broadcast exhilarating and unforgettable: “Who said radio stunts are dead, Man?”

Amanda Keller was thinking while lying on the bottom of the tank: “I feel really disrespectful for doing a number one not only in front of my family and the crowd but also in front of our General Manager too.”

Guinness World Records adjudicated pool side, stipulating that Jonesy & Amanda had to broadcast underwater, fully submerged for three hours and maintain a normal breakfast show format.

WSFM’s General Manager Anthony Fitzgerald told radioinfo he is very proud of Jonesy & Amanda’s World Record breaking achievement. He was even happier that he was able to use this opportunity to renegotiate next year’s contracts with Jonesy &Amanda while they were swimming with sharks.

Listen to the audio of the pair underwater at the link below. We wonder what kind of mics they were using.
