Australia Day is the birthday of 2UE. The station started as 2EU on January 26 1925.

The station will be broadcasting from the Sydney CBD from 5am with John and Garry who’ll be joined at 8:00 by 2UE’s longest serving breakfast presenter Gary O’Callaghan. Stuart Bocking and then Angela Catterns will follow with a number of special guests including John Williamson who’s scheduled to sing Happy Birthday.

O’Callaghan began in the 2UE newsroom on the same day in 1956 as John Laws. Laws later did breakfast for a short while, then was moved to nights and O'Callaghan took over from him in the breakfast slot. The station was Number 1 at the time, with a Top 40 format.

The OB will wrap up at 2pm to cross to the SCG for the cricket.

Content Director Clinton Maynard says, “We are planning a range of content throughout the year also utilising our extensive archives. Content begins on Australia Day with a 2UE flashback series, vignettes telling the story of 2UE's 90 years.”
