Golden Days Radio Reimagined

Each year Golden Days Radio is involved in Senior’s Week activities, including the Awards ceremony at Government House.

This year, because of Covid-19, live events have been cancelled but the Senior’s Festival which is usually later in the year is happening right now and running through until November.

This year the Festival is coming straight into listeners’ homes through on-line performances, zoom interviews and story-telling with GDR95.7, Golden Days Radio playing an important role in the audio section of the program known as Radio Reimagined.

Golden Days Radio has supplied a number of programs from its extensive back catalogue including 40 x ‘Bing Crosby and Friends’, 20 x ‘At the Picture Palace’ and 13 x ‘A Night at the Theatre’. These will begin airing on the Senior’s Festival website and community stations throughout Victoria from early June for 20 weeks. In the final 7 weeks of the Festival new productions including, ‘Seniors Dance Hall’, ‘Celebrate Seniors’, ‘Remembering the Wireless’, ‘Seniors Sing-a-long’, ‘Music of the Sixties’, ‘Great American Songbook’ and ‘Celebrity Senior of the Week’ will be broadcast.

There are over 600,000 senior Victorians 65+ in the Melbourne metropolitan area.

As well as via the Festival’s website, community stations including GDR will broadcast the programs outlined plus others to as many senior Victorians as possible. Aged Care facilities are being encouraged to stream programs via their Smart TVs and some programs will be delivered to individual aged care facilities via Dropbox or USB for those facilities to play to residents at their time of choosing.

Although the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards will not occur this year in their place is a program of recognition of the lives and contributions of aged care facility residents.

A mix of media will be produced to tell each person’s story ….radio, video, print and online. The broadcast material will be branded Radio Reimagined and Gerard Mansour; the Commissioner for Senior Victorians known to GDR95.7 listeners for his fortnightly program, “Seniors Update” will host these interviews. GDR will play a pivotal role in editing and preparing these programs for broadcast.

Throughout the Covid-19 lockdown GDR95.7 has provided its usual musical programming of “Yesterday’s Music Today”, often producing remotely to protect volunteers.

Radio Reimagined provides an energizing programming slate for both broadcasting on GDR95.7, on-line through goldendaysradio.com, through the Golden Days Radio app and through the Senior’s Festival Reimagined on-line facility.
