Former Adelaide radio newsman found dead in cell

Former 5AA and 5AD newsman John Trenorden was found dead in his cell at South Australia’s Yatala Jail this week, just days after being charged with murder.

Trenorden was found by prison warders hanging from a noose in his cell at about 1am during a routine inspection.

He was charged with the murder of Penelope Rae Christopher, whose body was found in his Glenelg apartment. Details of a “double life” are emerging since his death.

Trenorden worked as a newsreader for 5AA and 5AD in the 1980s and later at Mitsubishi Motors as national media relations manager. He was most recently involved in various small business ventures.
