Former 2UE journalists make the move to MRN

Following the merger of Fairfax and the Macquarie Radio Network, it has been widely reported that many former Fairfax staff have lost their jobs.

2UE’s Angela Catterns, many 4BC staff and almost the entire on-air lineup of Magic 882 in Melbourne have had their jobs axed.  The rumour mill has also been in overdrive on what is going to happen next with other stations that have been impacted by the newly created MRN.

But what hasn’t been reported is how many former MRN staff may have lost their jobs since the merger and which of the former 2UE journos have been integrated into the merged newsroom.

This week, radioinfo has been monitoring the newly merged Macquarie National News service that is now providing news for both 2GB and 2UE in Sydney,  and we’ve noticed several voices from the former 2UE news room who have moved across.  These include Olivia Leeming, Jenna Crowther, Gemma Gunning and Lucy Brennan.

We also noticed that former Fairfax Canberra reporter Michael Pachi is now providing reports from Canberra for the new newsroom, which seems to indicate that the former 2GB Canberra based reporter may have lost his job as a result of the merger.

MRN is due to make further announcements on more changes in the coming weeks.

In a little bit of mischief making this week, an old 2UE News twitter account was hacked to post a critical message about the newly combined news service. It is not known who hacked the site and posted the message, which was swiftly taken down. The main 2UE news twitter feed was not affected.
