FCC Hits Up Clear Channel for Another $250 000 in Indecency Fines

In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission intends to fine three Clear Channel radio stations for apparently airing indecent material.

The material was broadcast by the “Elliot in the Morning” program on WWDC-FM, Washington, DC, WRXL-FM, Richmond, Virginia, and WOSC-FM, Bethany Beach, Delaware.

There are nine apparent indecency violations, with fines totalling $247 500 (US), although they could have been as high as $4.5m!

The violations involved graphic and explicit sexual material, designed to “pander to, titillate and shock listeners”.

The Commission proposes maximum fines because of Clear Channel’s history of violations for broadcasting indecent material.

In January, Clear Channel was fined over the “Bubba the Love Sponge” program for 26 indecency violations.
