The end of an era for breakfast radio

A big era of radio ends today with three of the top rating breakfast programs in Australia finishing up this morning.

In Melbourne, Nova 100 duo Hugesy and Kate, and Fox FM breakfast team Matt and Jo finished after ten years of being rivals.

Hughesy and Kate announced in September that they wouldn’t be returning to Nova in 2014 after 12 years of hosting breakfast and since the stations inception.

Hear their announcement below:

Matt and Jo announced their resignation in early October, citing that new challenges would await them in the new year of 2014.

In Sydney, the Kyle and Jackie O show finished up on 2DAY FM after ten years and fifty straight survey’s as Sydney’s number 1 FM breakfast show. Ever since the announcement, there have been rumours of move’s to several other networks including Nova amongst other rumours that the duo wouldn’t be retuning to radio together and that their asking price was excessive. Earlier this morning however, it was confirmed that the duo would be moving to 106.5 on ARN although, what the station’s name will be in 2014 still remains unconfirmed, despite leaked photos showing a rebranding from Mix to Kiis.

Twitter has been flooded with farewells to the departing announcers, so much so that both #byehughesyandkate and #kjshow are current trending topics.
