Eastside Radio 89.7FM is in it for the duration

Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs community radio station, Eastside Radio 89.7FM, has launched its own daily COVID-19 local news show.

The closure of local print media, including the Wentworth Courier, has provided the station with a unique opportunity to reassert its community-based focus and broadcast information especially tailored for the local audience.

For the Duration is hosted by seasoned journalists and Eastside Radio volunteers, Christopher Zinn and John McNamara.

Every weekday at 3pm the duo brings the latest and most reliable COVID-19 news to listeners and feature an interview with the key leaders, changemakers and authoritative figures working to keep the community safe and informed during this pandemic.

Launching on Easter Monday, April 13, Chris and John have already interviewed the likes of Dave Sharma and Waverley Mayor Paula Masselos in the first week and have targeted Eastern Suburb’s politicians, police, medical experts and authoritative figures in weeks to come.

For The Duration will also act as a platform for the community to ask questions of those in power, share their experiences and grow ideas to overcome the effects of COVID-19. This includes local businesses and services looking to rebuild and connect with their community.

Eastside Radio Managing Director, Tony Smythe, says, “We are side-by-side with the local community, not only in dealing with the situation day-by-day but just as importantly by being a part of the recovery effort.”
